"chaviyani"

Although the name of this blog sounds like the first letter from the word chichandaa, it is not. It is the second letter of the Maldivian alphabet which is commonly (but mistakenly in my opinion called Shaviyani'.

If it sounds like Shaviyani then it is same sound as the letter 'Sheenu' and therefore it is not distinctively different. 'Shaviyani' is actually prounced in a lighter tone and thus the only way I can represent it here is by using 'Chaviyani', i.e. 'ch' as in 'cher' and not as in 'chat'

You are taught in school that the letter chaviyani is unique in the sense that there is no word beginning with the letter chaviyani, but actually there is. Chibonshi is a dhivehi word for the passion fruit or otherwise known as jumhoori meyvaa.

In a sence, this blog is like the letter chaviyani. I would like to think that it is going to give a unique perspective on the political and social issues prevalent in Maldivian society but at the same time, there are eons of blogs which discuss the same issues.

And so this post lays the foundation stone for my blog on socio political issues. More to come soon.
